Maryland is Highlighted in States that Passed Legislation in 2019 – Humane Society of the United States

Kitty Block, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, discusses legislation that passed in 2019. Overall, it was a successful year for animals with legislation passing in some states dealing with extreme confinement of egg-laying hens, animals in cosmetics testing, de-clawing of cats, puppy mills, sale of ivory, killing contests, and more. Maryland is noted for passing legislation combatting Animal Sexual Abuse, allowing judges to award restitution to agencies for Costs of Care in animal cruelty cases, and protecting Cownose Rays from brutal killing contests.

Maryland Votes for Animals looks forward to continuing our work with the Humane Society of the United States, animal welfare organizations, legislators, and advocates to promote humane legislation and improve the lives of animals in Maryland.
