In Sunday’s Washington Post, supporters of Maryland’s Keep Antibiotics Effect Act explain, “New estimates suggest superbug infections are now the third-leading cause of death in the United States, behind heart disease and cancer, claiming up to 162,000 lives each year.”
Maryland now has one of the strictest laws in the country to protect animals, people, and the environment from the public health crisis created by routine use of prophylactic antibiotics on farm animals who are not sick. The updated Keep Antibiotics Act is strengthened by a reporting requirement to ensure that there is compliance with the new law. #protectfarmanimals #stopantibioticresistance
