Our Passion

Our Passion for our work is motivated especially by three lines of thought:

  • Concern for animals has been a part of mainstream Western thought since the ancient Greeks.  But more recently one of history’s greatest thinkers challenged us to do more for animals.

Widen our Circle of CompassionOur task must be to ... widen our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

--- Albert Einstein

  • The connection between violence to animals and violence to humans is well documented. A more peaceful society starts with the realization that all sentient beings matter, and that all deserve our protection and respect --- especially the weakest among us.

Take the side of the weakIt’s a matter of taking the side of the weak against the strong, something the best people have always done.

--- Harriet Beecher Stowe

  • Respect for the natural world and respect for all its inhabitants is so closely linked as to be one issue. The devastating effect of factory farming on the environment, on both farmed and wild animals and on human health is one of the most critical problems of the 21st century.

Farm animals have feelings too!The cost of mass-producing cattle, poultry, pigs, sheep and fish to feed our growing population... includes highly inefficient use of freshwater and land, heavy pollution from livestock feces... and spreading destruction of the forests on which much of our planet's life depends.

--- Time Magazine, 11/8/99
